We invite you out for an eveing of culture, dance, drum and fun.....All age-groups....families are encouraged to attend... The Doundounba dance is a fun, energetic and social dance of solos performed by drummers and dancers that are based around the Doundoun rhythms from Guinea West Africa. The dances accompany specific drumming rhythms; each rhythm has a particular set of phrases, though there is often room for creativity or introduction of new steps. During the DounDounba the participants form a circle with the drummers at the head, or in the center. Dancers emerge by themselves (or in groups of 2 and 3) and approach the drummers to dance for a short time before returning to the circle again. Djembe soloing is used to accentuate the dancer's steps when they approach the drummers, and often dancers try to incite the drummers to play certain phrases, or to keep up with their movements. DounDounBa is often done as a community and has the atmosphere of a public party. Please consider a Donation of $5 $10 or $20 to allow us to continue to empower and inspire the community with Drumming, Artz & Yoga...... Bring the entire family and come dance and drum with The DAY Program.......
